José Vargas & Albrecht Dürer
José Vargas, born in Costa Rica in 1966, and graduated with a Bachelor in Arts degree from the University of Costa Rica (UCR) in 1992. He was an analyst and investigator into the methods, materials, techniques and styles of the Renaissance masters such as: Albrecht Dürer, Sandro Botticelli and Leonardo Da Vinci. His artwork evokes the classic Renaissance painting techniques.  In 2000 he exhibited his artwork series "Men Images," by invitation from the Costa Rican Central Bank Museums.  In 2004 he began a series featuring Costa Rica´s National Parks, especially its famous volcanoes. The exhibition took place at the twentieth anniversary of OVSICORI-UNA.  Since 1995, he has been dedicated to his artwork as well as to providing private painting instruction, specializing in oil on canvas, with the classic Renaissance European techniques. Mr. Vargas is also available for seminars and group workshops for professional artists wishing to learn the secrets of classic techniques which can be applied to almost every art style.  In the photo above of Mr. Vargas's rendition of Albrecht Dürer's famous self portrait from the year 1500, the color of the robe was enhanced while detail and technique remained faithful to the original.  His commissioned works have also included a wide range of styles such as that of Claude Monet and II (Agnolo) Bronzino.  Mr. Vargas's annual trips to visit the great art museums of Europe have provided him with additional insights and inspiration as his own unique style continues to evolve.
The GREAT MASTERPIECES REPLICA COURSE is offered in Costa Rica, United States and Europe and is available in a seminar, workshop series classes and private individual training.
